The experience of CBNH’s tennis class

The experience of CBNH’s tennis class

Not every school in the Dominican Republic has the capacity or the option to teach tennis as a sport. New Horizons School is the exception. The school has its own system of seven different disciplines which each high school student can choose from. Due to personal preference and experiencing new types of disciplines, I chose tennis. Starting from 2014 the school adopted this program of such variety of sports. Since then, the students have been experiencing new sports and learning new disciplines. In the case of tennis class, many students have chosen this discipline as their main one and the responses have been mostly positive. Tennis class is a mixture of previous knowledge with learning the rules and management of the racket and the ball. In my case I’ve developed these skills throughout the school year. The teacher is very consistent in showing the students the way people should hold the racket and other essential rules. It is crucial for the teacher to explain everything about the discipline, and this one has proven it. The main negative opinion I have and that others have is the length of the class which is 2 hours, although it is necessary because of the large number of students involved. Since the start of this discipline, the teacher has improved the skills of the students and it is fair to assume everyone is satisfied with...
New Horizons’ Ping Pong Class

New Horizons’ Ping Pong Class

This school year, new sports were introduced and made available to the student body. Among them was ping pong. The sport resembles tennis but it is played on a table, hence the name table tennis. The players alternate turns serving and the end goal is to get eleven points. Five years ago, I was in a ping pong summer camp, so I was debating on whether to continue my learning by signing up for the class or experiencing a new discipline. I decided to pass and went to dance instead, however, this semester I decided to give ping pong a try. Last Friday I had my first class. The teacher was welcoming and fun, but most importantly, a lover of the sport. He immediately taught me the basics and made me practice what I learned. During the two hours that the class lasted, I felt the love the students had for the game. There were some experienced players as well as beginners, still, all shared the same desire to learn and test their abilities. Afterwards, I interviewed the teacher for my Newspaper class. He told me how he learned to play when he was seventeen years old and has not stopped since. He has competed in several international tournaments and has won numerous awards. He also told me how proud he was of the class. Since last semester, they have acquired new techniques, which was one of the things that led them to win third place on last month’s tournament. New Horizons’ ping pong class is full of potential. With the guidance of an experienced teacher like ours, the...
Volleyball

Volleyball

In the New Horizons there are a lot of sports. Like judo, daze, football, volleyball, equitation, badminton, act.. But in specific is the volleyball is one of my favorites. Because a things that they are more important that envy other sport . Volleyball is my way of life. It is my way to calm down after a hard day at school. It’s mine. Mine, to escape, the stress of life, the stress of school, the stress of family, just to escape. It’s mine, to take out my aggression on the world, to be loud and aggressive. When I play volleyball I totally forget all my problems and focus on nothing but volleyball and the intensity of the game. It’s like some people with their music. When they listen to it they forget all the problems of the world. Like any other sport volleyball can be stressful. As tournaments and games approach we work to get all the practice in that we can. But this is a good kind of stress. The kind of stress I am happy to have. The kind of stress that pushes me to work harder in order to get good at what I love. It pushes me to keep on. Our girls 7th grade volleyball, undefeated won 1st place in the Copa St Joseph, last weekend. The team led by Prof. Elvis Contreras veteran, former National Team and Manager and Coach of the Volleyball National Army, led by captain and Isabella Ferrand, won all the sets played during the tournament.
